CSL Participates at the International Association of Maritime Economist Conference in Valencia and starts counting to host next year's conference

On the sunny city of Valencia in Spain, members of the Centre of Shipping and Logistics (CSL) had the opportunity to participate and present their research findings at the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) 2024 Conference.

This conference is a tradition among maritime academics and industry enthusiasts from around the world providing a platform to discuss the latest advancements and trends in maritime affairs.

This year CSL representation included Professor Haiying Jia, Assistant Professor Gabriel Fuentes and PhD Candidate Vegard Enerstvedt, which contributed with presentations about green vessels secondhand pricing, climate effects on the Panama Canal and topics relevant to the shipping activity amid the conflicts in Ukraine. Among the awardees, Gabriel Fuentes earned the best paper on the Smart Maritime Ecosystem award for his paper Predicting the Panama Canal Water Times with integrated climate data.

The conference had keynote presentations from Professor Inmaculada Martinez Zarsoso from Universitat Jaume I Castillo and Jan Hoffmann Head of Trade and Logistics from UN Trade and Development.

As the conference drew to a close, delegates announce that the CSL, in collaboration with NHH and the city of Bergen, will host the IAME 2025 Conference. Professor Haiying Jia was honored with the conference flag as the new chair for IAME 2025, and Assistant Professor Gabriel Fuentes provided an overview of what to expect at next year's event.
