FAIR Course Labor Economics

The course covers traditional topics in labor economics and encourages the development of own research ideas. The course will discuss the neoclassical model of labor demand and also covers the implications of imperfect competition on the labor market. Topics include wage and employment determination, minimum wages, technological change, and institutions in the labor market. Digital seminar: Covid-19 and Human Capital Response: results of a national survey among Norwegian CEOs

The Covid-19 pandemic overnight turned into a recession as governments introduced measures that locked-down large parts of the economy. The steep decline in demand that followed as a reaction to the measure put in place forced a large number of firms to make dramatic changes to how they invest, deploy, and manage their human capital. This raises the general question of how the pandemic impacts firms’ human capital decisions.

Nordic PhD exchange seminar: Pol Campos-Mercade Threshold Incentives and Academic Performance

Pol Campos-Mercade is a PhD student at Lund University. Campos-Mercade uses field experiments and other methods of experimental economics to study issues related to economics of education. More concretely, 1) how incentives, goals, and reference points determine study effort, and 2) how social preferences and expectations of being discriminated affect educational choice. FAIR invites you to a seminar with Christine Exley, assistant professor in the Negotiation, Organizations & Markets Unit at Harvard Business School. Exley works to better understand inequity and how to close inequities in our society. From June 24.-June 28., 2019, FAIR will host the Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality together with Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) at The Center for the Economics of Human Development (Department of Economics), University of Chicago.
