Meet Eppie Jean Van Egeraat, a young PhD scholar from Ireland who has already earned two published papers—a rising star, her NHH colleagues say.
ENGAGE.EU funding brings new podcast and workshop to life
Two NHH researchers were among the winning initiatives selected to receive Engage.EU seed funding to create platforms for knowledge exchange.
Faculty from all nine alliance universities in ENGAGE.EU were invited to submit proposals for bottom-up scientific initiatives through seed funding from the ENGAGE.EU research label.
`The call was a nice opportunity to attract external funding to launch a fun new initiative, ‘said Eppie van Egeraat, PhD candidate at the Department of Economics, NHH.
Platform for PhD students
Van Egeraat was one of the NHH applicants selected for the funding. She will create emerging research podcasts and aims to create an inclusive platform where PhD students from various institutions within the ENGAGE.EU alliance can share their research as well as their insights and experiences as junior researchers.
`The podcast will hopefully help us to link with other PhD students in the network and enhance visibility and dissemination of our research, ´she said.

- A European university alliance founded in 2020 (NHH became a member in 2021)
- Comprises of 10 prominent European business schools
- Includes universities from Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Finland, France and Switzerland
- Fosters collaboration, mobility, and innovation in education to tackle societal challenges and prepare students for global issues
- Students, scholars and staff can access both online and in-presence opportunities offered at the affiliated universities
Egeraat got €1800 in seed funding.
Together with her team she is currently designing a podcast template and is planning to launch her first episode in September 2025.

The ENGAGE.EU research label funds small scale, limited in time, bottom-up initiatives to facilitate the initiation of potential long-term collaborative activities within the alliance.
To qualify for funding the project had to include colleagues from at least three partner universities in the alliance. The collaboration also had to be linked to at least one societal challenge.
Van Egeraat has teamed up with PhD faculty from The University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Bulgaria, Ramon Lull University (URL) in Spain, University of Mannheim (UMA) in Germany and Luiss University in Italy.
`By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among junior researchers, my podcast initiative aligns with ENGAGE.EU's agenda to support early-stage researchers and promote bottom-up scientific collaboration, ´ she said.
Tax centers joining forces
Assistant Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science at NHH, Elisa Casi-Eberhard was also rewarded funding for the initiative to create a joint research workshop on ‘Tax and Sustainability’.
`Last year, NoCeT initiated a discussion on how to foster collaboration among our tax center and the other tax centers within the ENGAGE.EU alliance. NHH, Vienna University of Economics and Business and University of Mannheim are all known for their internationally recognized researchers working in tax accounting and public economics. Together we decided to join forces, ´ said Casi-Eberhard.
Promote researcher mobility
The workshop will provide a platform for junior researchers to get feedback on their projects from senior faculty, peers, and external stakeholders such as policy makers and journalists.
`The long-term goal is to share resources across the three institutions and promote the mobility of our researchers through short or long-term research stays at each institution, ´ concluded Casi-Eberhard who got € 3500 in funding.
