ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The analysis of social interaction in professional settings has developed over the last few decades from understanding meaning-making primarily as a product of language, to perceiving it as inherently multimodal, accomplished through the coordinated action of language, bodies, material objects, and other semiotic resources. In particular, the move from physical to digital and hybrid professional spaces accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the ways in which people conduct their work, construct professional identities, and collaborate as teams. This transformation is tangible in the work of applied linguists who study interaction in professional settings and requires us to rapidly develop our methodological and digital competences.
This workshop is the first in a planned series of methodology workshops organised by the Department of Professional an Intercultural Communication at NHH. The workshops are aimed at researchers working within applied linguistics, pragmatics, or intercultural communication who wish to hone their methodologial skills in response to today’s evolving research environments.
Our invited speakers include:
- Stefan Diemer, Professor of International Business Communication and Digital Business and Director of Institute for International and Digital Communication, Trier University of Applied Sciences
- Dorien Van De Mieroop, Professor of Linguistics, KU Leuven
- Stephanie Schnurr, Professor of Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick
