Attitudes towards Inequality and Redistribution

The Deaton Review on Inequality is an initiative taken by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, London with the following motivation:

Inequalities are at the forefront of today’s public and policy debates. They have been linked to some of the most important political events, including the rise of populism across the developed world and the vote for Brexit, and have sparked worldwide protest movements. There could hardly be a more pressing time to understand how inequalities arise, which one's matter, why they matter, and how they should be addressed.

The Deaton Review, led by Nobel Laureate Professor Angus Deaton, has invited several experts on inequality to write chapters on different topics related to inequality. Professor Ingvild Almås (IIES and FAIR) is organizing this workshop on behalf of the Deaton Review and jointly with the Institute for Fiscal Studies, IIES Stockholm University, and FAIR, NHH Norwegian School of Economics.
