Hiring Pre-Doctoral Fellows

FAIR at the Department of Economics, NHH, invites applications for three pre-doctoral fellow positions for the 2025/2026 academic year. These positions provide an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to cutting-edge economic research and develop their skills in a dynamic academic environment.

FAIR - Centre for Experimental Research on Fairness, Inequality and Rationality (FAIR) is located at the Department of Economics at The Norwegian School of Economics.

The Centre aims to conduct groundbreaking experimental research on how to address inequality in society, and is a unique platform for collaboration between Behavioural, Labour and Development groups.


Successful Alumni

FAIR pre-doctoral fellows have a strong track record of gaining admission to top PhD programmes. Recent placements include Oxford University, the London School of Economics, University of California Santa Barbara, and University of California Davis.


Research Areas and Supervisors

We are offering positions in the following fields:

Behavioural Economics
We will involve the candidate in ongoing projects including a global study of moral values study in more than 60 countries and an exciting new project on the freedom to choose. The projects address fundamental questions about people’s moral values, belief formation, and how considerations of individual freedom and personal responsibility affect economic decisions. We expect to involve the candidate in literature reviews, data analysis in Stata, data processing, data visualization, and writing.

Labour Economics
We will involve the candidate in ongoing projects like understanding early childhood inequality, consequences of gender differences in education, and economics of crime. We expect to involve the candidate in literature reviews, data analysis in Stata, data processing, data visualization, and writing.

Development Economics
We will involve the candidate in ongoing projects in Tanzania related to development and learning for different age groups (children, adolescents and adults). Through this, the candidate will be introduced to frontier research and become an integrated part of an international research team. We expect to involve the candidate in survey design, fieldwork (including project supervision and data collection), literature reviews, data analysis, and writing.

These full-time, one-year positions combine research work with learning activities, providing opportunities for growth and skill development. The positions are ideal for recent master's graduates interested in pursuing a PhD in Economics. As a pre-doctoral fellow, you will work closely with faculty supervisors and a team of international researchers.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • A master’s degree with a strong academic record in Economics or another quantitative field.
  • A passion for independent problem-solving and the ability to translate high-level guidance into meaningful research.
  • A strong curiosity about the social world and a keen interest in exploring how the environment shapes individual behaviour.
