Opinion piece published in Clarín

David Jaume and Alexander L. P. Willén have published an opinion piece in the Argentine newspaper Clarín about a newly passed law concerning educational establishments and strikes.

The National Chamber of Deputies in Argentina has passed a law declaring education an “essential strategic service.” This law aims to ensure that educational institutions remain open during strikes and industrial action— a significant issue in a country where each child loses approximately 100 school days due to teacher strikes.

The law was partially motivated by research conducted by Willén and Jaume (2019) and (2021). In this opinion piece, Willén and Jaume express concerns that the new law may do more harm than good.
