Willén appointed editor of The Economic Journal

NHH Professor Alexander Willén has been appointed an editor of The Economic Journal, one of the oldest and most prestigious journals in economics.

Founded in 1891, The Economic Journal is the world’s second-oldest English-language academic journal in economics. It is published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Economic Society and is regarded as one of the leading journals in the discipline.

– The Economic Journal has a long and important history in the economics profession, and I am honoured to be joining the editorial team. I also recognise the importance of this responsibility, and I am humbled by the task, says Alexander Willén.

Willén is Professor at the Department of Economics and Norwegian Centre for Excellence FAIR. His research focuses primarily on labour economics, economics of education and public economics. He holds a PhD from Cornell University and has been a professor at NHH since 2021.

Among the journal’s most famous former editors is John Maynard Keynes, who served as editor from 1912 to 1944. Keynes and Francis Ysidro Edgeworth are the only two people in the journal’s history to have held sole editorial responsibility for a period.
