MAB3 Technology Management

  • Topics

    MAB3 Technology management is taught in the third semester, where the overarching theme is how firms can utilize and manage digital technologies to achieve their organizational and strategic objectives.

    Core topics will include

    • Digital strategy, value creation and value capture
    • Business model and business model innovation
    • Digital platforms and ecosystems
    • Managerial and strategic responses to emerging technologies, such as AI and automation tools
    • Responsible approaches to technology management
    • Practical implications for managers

  • Learning outcome

    Knowledge:

    Upon course completion, the students will be able to:

    • explain key concepts and theories related to management and strategy, from a digital technology perspective
    • explain and compare concepts of digital platforms and ecosystems
    • discuss how digital technologies might affect organizations at different levels (e.g., individual, team, organizational)
    • critically reflect on the consequences and effects of digital technologies from a managerial and strategic perspective

    Skills:

    Upon course completion, the students can:

    • assess risks and opportunities related to emerging technologies in organizational contexts
    • analyze an organization’s business model, including role of digital technologies in business model innovation
    • analyze how an organization creates and captures value, and evaluate how digital technologies can reshape these mechanisms
    • formulate and evaluate a digital strategy
    • analyze and illustrate the role of an organization in a larger digital platform ecosystem

    General competence:

    Upon course completion, the students can:

    • take an active part in informed discussions on technological change and its managerial, strategic and organizational implications
    • apply their acquired knowledge and skills to learn more about emerging technologies on their own, and reflect on how organizations might utilize these effectively and responsibly
    • be able to situate theories and concepts from the course in real world settings

  • Teaching

    The course will be run intensively for the second half of the fall semester, with teaching activities during week 41-46.

    We use different forms of learning activities, such as class discussions, case studies, videos, lectures, and guest lectures. Active engagement in class activities is expected from the students.

  • Compulsory Activity

    Midway reflection note on a topic provided by the instructors, and peer review of fellow students’ reflection notes.

    Students who have taken the MAB3 exam before the requirements for course approval were introduced can retake the exam without course approval. Standard rules for retake still apply.

  • Assessment

    Assessment is divided into two parts:

    • (40%) Group presentation in English, in self-made groups of 2-3 students. The students will work towards the presentation throughout the teaching period and class activities. The presentation itself will be conducted at the end of the teaching period. More information will be provided during the course.
    • (60%) 3-hour individual digital school exam, written and answered in English.

  • Retake

    Retake is offered early in the non-teaching semester for students who were registered for the exam at the time of the assessment in the teaching semester, and did not achieve a passing grade. Other students may retake the exam the next time the course is offered.

    The group presentation cannot be retaken in the non-teaching semester, and may be retaken the next time the course is offered
