Don’t say ‘misogyny’

Margrete Dyvik Cardona has been in her current position as associate professor of Spanish linguistics at NHH since 2018. She received her PhD degree in 2010 from the University of Bergen, where she later held a position as associate professor of Spanish linguistics.
While her PhD thesis focused on verbal tense and aspect, her current research interests include text and corpus linguistics and discourse analysis. Her main research project in recent years has been POLAME – Poverty, Language and Media: The cases of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. For this project, Cardona studied how Colombian newspapers construct and convey notions of poverty.
Her work has appeared in journals such as Hispania, Fachsprache, Peter Lang Publishing, Didáctica. Lengua y literatura, among others.
Furthermore, she has authored a book on Spanish syntax for Norwegian students, published at Universitetsforlaget.
She is in the process of initiating a new research project, Framing, agenda-setting and Mexican migrants to the USA, where she will examine, from a discourse perspective, how newspapers from the United States linguistically frame migrants from Mexico. The aim is to ascertain whether the migrants are presented in a way that could impede their successful integration into American society.
She is also engaged in science communication, with an article in Bergens Tidende (https://www.bt.no/btmeninger/debatt/i/Wwwwd/Flerspraklighet-er-en-berikelse), an interview on NRK P2, and a blog on Spanish language (http://margretecardona.blogspot.com/), which has several thousand readers.
Her teaching experience includes Spanish grammar, academic writing, translation, general linguistics and psycholinguistics.
