The terror of an error
In his midway evaluation “The terror of an error: How our relationship to our team members effects our reactions to their mistakes”, PhD candidate Silas Braun presented his preliminary research on the significance of acknowledging and understanding reactions to mistakes within team settings.
Silas demonstrated that the evaluation of team members' errors is not solely based on the mistake itself. Additionally, he suggested that people often anticipate harsher reactions from teammates than what is actually experienced.
Silas also highlighted the importance of team roles and hierarchy in the assessment of mistakes, emphasizing the complexity of team interactions and how structure and status influence responses to errors.
Looking ahead in his PhD, Silas proposed two avenues for future research. The first explores the dynamics between human and AI team members regarding reactions to errors, aiming to deepen our understanding of human-AI collaboration.
The second seeks to examine how feedback from team members following a mistake affects an individual’s performance in online gaming environments.
Silas is supervised by Professors Vidar Schei and Therese Egeland, all three affiliated with DIG.
