Digital Currencies: Revolution or Evolution?

Abstract

The digital currency revolution "meme" has enthralled an entire generation of engineers and entrepreneurs.  Pundits fret about financial crimes, monetary stability, hacks and frauds.  But the attention of the industry is focused more on blockchain technology.  For more than a decade, blockchains have securely recorded positions of enormous value on the open internet.  This talk focuses on industry evolution: where blockchains add business value, what experiments are underway, and what are the requirements for secure and efficient adoption of these new technologies.

Biography

Dr. King is Manager of Financial Technology Research at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York.  He leads research programs in the analysis of blockchain networks: privacy preserving data analytics, financial crime detection, automated market makers, and digital asset custody.
