Guest Lecture with Mark D. Orlic Taxes and Business Strategy

Guest Lecture from FIE 441, "Taxes and Business Strategy", with Mark D. Orlic, partner at PwC. Transformation has been a hot topic in the press for many years with terms like "disruption" being thrown around regularly. But, what does this mean for tax practitioners? What are firms doing now to prepare their teams for the future and what do we expect that future to look like? What are some examples of optimized operations in this area and how are tax products developed? We will look to answer these questions and others that may arise from them in this lecture.

Mark D. Orlic, partner at PwC, is originally from the United States, but moved to Germany initially to drive regulatory projects in the financial services sector.

This work led to an interest in transformation and technology. Ten years later he has a multidisciplinary team of 60 people who develop digital solutions for PwC's clients in the area of tax and legal in addition to optimizing how PwC delivers traditional services to clients. His research has been published in the World Tax Journal and the British Tax Review. He is also an angel investor and advisor to European start ups.
