Principal Investigator
Torfinn Harding
Associate Professor, NHH Norwegian School of Economics
Harding is also associated with the University of Stavanger, Statistics Norway, the Oxford Centre for the Analysis of Resource Rich Economies and CESifo. He holds a PhD in economics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2008) and has published on issues related to economic development, natural resources, and international trade and investment.

Liana O. Anderson
Researcher, National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters (CEMADEN)
Anderson is also an associate researcher in land cover dynamics at the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at the University of Oxford. She holds a PhD in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford (2011) and was a Postdoc at ECI. She is based at CEMADEN in Brazil and is a Collaborator Professor at the Federal University of Acre and at the Remote Sensing Division - INPE, Brazil. Her research focuses on the monitoring of fires and vegetation and the associated carbon emissions.
James Cust
Director of Research and Data, Natural Resource Governance Institute
James (Jim) Cust holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford (2015). His doctoral research examines the effects of resource extraction and infrastructure projects on regional economic development in Indonesia.

Samantha De Martino
Economist, The World Bank Group
De Martino's research interests are applied microeconomics, behavioral economics, and sustainable development. Her doctoral research is on monetary and non-monetary incentives and conservation. She worked for the World Bank in the Sustainable Development department from 2010-2013 and earned her Masters degree in International Economics at Johns Hopkins University.
Ana Carolina Pessoa
Research Assistant, National Institute for Space Research (INPE)
Pessôa holds a degree in Biological Sciences – Ecology from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She was an exchange student at University of Montana – USA through the Brazilian program ‘Science Without Borders’. She earned her Master’s degree in Remote Sensing from National Institute for Space Research (INPE). Her research interests includes forest ecology and environmental conservation, focusing on Protected Areas issues.
Karlygash Kuralbayeva
Research officer, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, London School of Economics and Political Science
Kuralbayeva holds a PhD in economics from University of Oxford. She has published in the areas of international economics and economic development, including work on structural transformation and natural resource windfalls.

André Lima
Post-Doctoral Researcher, University of Maryland
Lima holds a PhD in Remote Sensing from Brazil's National Institute for Space Research (2013). His research focuses on Geosciences, specifically linked to remote sensing of tropical forests. His work spans from land cover and burnt scars detection in Amazonia and landscape ecology to biodiversity conservation.
Po Yin Wong
Assistant Professor, NHH Norwegian School of Economics.
Wong holds in PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park (2015). Her research interests are in development economics and applied microeconomics. She has published on topics such as household resilience to natural disasters in Indonesia, news coverage and charitable donations, as well as household fertility choices with respect to marital status in Guatemala.

Hanna Krings
Research Associate and PhD student at the chair of International Economics at RWTH Aachen University
Krings holds a Master degree from Maastricht University in International Economics. Her research interests are in applied econometrics and development economics. Her doctoral research is on environmental and economic consequences due to resource extraction as well as global trade in discarded energy consumption goods.
Julika Herzberg
PhD student at RWTH Aachen University
Herzberg has a Masters degree in International Economics and Governance and is currently a PhD student at the University of Aachen. Her research interests are development and environmental economics, international trade and spatial econometrics. Her doctoral studies are on structural economic change and deforestation, traceability of supply chains and mechanism of green labelling.
Sacha Siani
Research Assistant, National Institute for Space Research (INPE)
Sacha Siani holds Master’s degree in Remote Sensing from National Institute for Space Research, Brazil (2016) and bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering from University of Taubaté (2012). His research focuses on socioenvironmental issues, especially in protected areas, using geoinformation, remote sensing and spatial analysis.
Bruna Pechini Bento
Research Assistant, National Institute for Space Research (INPE)
Bento holds a Master degree in Remote Sensing from National Institute for Space Research (INPE). She has a Bachelor degree in Geography with emphasis in Environmental Analysis and Geoprocessing from State University of São Paulo (Unesp). During her bachelor studies, she has been an exchange student at Évora University, Portugal. Bento’s research focuses on Environmental Registry of Rural Properties (known as CAR) in the Legal Amazon through geographic information system (GIS).
