Social Inequality in Dental Health: What Are the Solutions?

Ten percent of the Norwegian population does not visit the dentist, often due to financial constraints. Today, the Dental Health Committee will present its NOU, which highlights potential solutions.

In 2022, the government appointed a committee to review the dental health sector. The committee has been led by former county council chief executive Evy-Anni Evensen.

Professor and head of the Department of Economics, Kurt R. Brekke, has been a member of the Dental Health Committee.

This Thursday, they will present their report as an Official Norwegian Report (NOU).

Watch the presentation on Thursday, September 26, from 1:00 PM.

The purpose of the Dental Health Committee was to present various models for a dental health service that can improve accessibility across the country.

The committee was tasked with developing and evaluating proposals to ensure that dental health services are equal to other healthcare services. Such a model could involve considering an increase in public responsibility for dental health services, for example, through subsidies for dental treatment under the National Insurance Scheme and/or the inclusion of dental services in the specialized healthcare system.
