Juranek awarded teaching prize

‘Very motivating’, said Professor Steffen Juranek. He received this year's "Inspirational Teaching Award" and 250.000 NOK.

‘It feels fantastic, and it is very motivating. I am honored to be selected among the great lecturers at NHH. I want to thank everyone who has supported our project over the years – especially the administration and the Section for International Relations,’ said Professor Steffen Juranek at the Department of Business Economics.

Juranek received the award for his efforts as the leader of the Innovation School, a summer programme for master students who are curious about innovation. The programme combines teaching with an internship in Germany. The NHH professor has built up the programme, together with the Section for International Relations.

ENTHUSIASTIC TEACHER

The Teaching Prize, known as the "Inspirational Teaching Award", was presented in Grieghallen at the Graduation ceremony for this year's graduates. It goes to NHH researchers who make an extraordinary effort in teaching. A total of 45 researchers were nominated.

The prize was presented by Rector Øystein Thøgersen and Henrik Müller-Hansen, CEO and founder of Gelato. Together with his wife Isabella Müller-Hansen, he has donated 1.25 million NOK to the annual prize of 250.000 NOK. This year, it was awarded for the third time.

‘The winner is described by students as enthusiastic and someone who "goes the extra mile". To quote one of the nominations: "We learned a tremendous amount from his innovative ways of teaching". The winner is good at relating his material to other parts of the curriculum, he cooperates closely with businesses and other institutions, and he has contributed to making NHH a better business school by giving students unique opportunities.’

USES MODERN PEDAGOGY

Müller-Hansen further said:

‘Through enthusiasm and dedication, Juranek has shown how novel approaches and modern pedagogy can support the students learning. To quote a former student again: "after starting work, I still benefit from what I learned at the Innovation School; such as knowledge on innovation theory and innovation management, but also the work experience and personal growth.’

At the Graduation, the master students' prize for "Excellence in Teaching" was also awarded. It went to Finn Kinserdal, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law.
