NHH among Europe's 60 best business schools

The Norwegian School of Economics' master's program is ranks top nationally by Financial Times.

FT Ranking and Alumn

  • Those receiving questionnaires from FT have completed their education three years earlier.
  • FT requires a significant proportion of alumni to respond to the survey.
  • FT has adjusted its rankings over time. For example, in recent years, carbon footprint, teaching hours about ESG, how to achieve zero emissions goals, and the importance of the alumni network have been included.
  • International accreditations are also increasingly important quality indicators. NHH holds the so-called Triple Crown, which consists of the three accreditations EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA.

The master's program in economics and administration scores best among the country's business schools, shows Financial Times’ (FT) ranking.

‘I am very satisfied with NHH's position within full-time studies in Norway. For several years, we have experienced a formidable interest in studying at NHH’, says NHH's rector Øystein Thøgersen. In FT's overall ranking of Europe's best business schools, NHH ends up in 53rd place.

This is a drop from 45th place last year, but this year more schools have joined the ranking making the competition even tougher.

Increase in ranked schools

The overall ranking covers five sub-rankings that the FT has during the year. In 2024, 100 European business schools have been ranked. This is an increase of ten schools from last year.

France takes both first and second place with Insead in Fontainebleau and HEC Paris. Third place is captured by London Business School followed by Iese Business School in Barcelona in fourth. Stockholm School of Economics retains its 23rd place and ranks best among the Nordic business schools.

Why the Financial Times ranking is important for NHH

NHH's master's programme is world-class, according to the Financial Times ranking. In 2023, NHH moved up two places. `Engaged alumni were important for the ranking´, says Rector Øystein Thøgersen.

CEMS schools at the very top

Two of the top six ranked business schools are CEMS schools, with HEC Paris in second and Bocconi in Milan in sixth. CEMS is an international master's program (CEMS MIM) is traditionally offered at one business school in each member country. NHH is Norway's member of the network.

In the ranking, there are also six business schools that are part of the European alliance ENGAGE.EU, of which NHH is also a member.

Emphasizes sustainability

The Financial Times’ overall ranking emphasizes for instance sustainability, graduates’ salary and salary increase, but also diversity and internationalization among candidates and academic staff. The five sub-categories are weighted in percentage as follows:

  • MBA (25) – NHH did not partake in this one
  • Masters in Management (25)
  • EMBA (25)
  • Executive Education Open (12.5)
  • Executive Education Custom 12.5)
