Residence card and norwegian id number

Residence card and norwegian id number

International students must register in Norway after arrival.

If you are staying more than six months, you will receive a Norwegian ID number, which in turn is the key to several services, such as opening a bank account.

The steps to follow depend on your nationality. Find information below about what applies to you.

Note: You will receive important documents by post during the registration process. Upon moving into your housing, make sure to locate your mailbox. If you have housing from Sammen you do not have to mark it with your name. If you live elsewhere, make sure to mark the mailbox with your full name.

Please note that it may take several months before you get all the practicalities in order, and full access to your Sammen deposit.

Sammen may provide you with a maximum of two 9500 NOK-cash cards which you may use for day-to-day expenses while you wait for the refund of your deposit.
