Lars Mathiesen received the degree of lic NHH in 1975. He became professor in management science in 1975 and in economics in 1987. His teaching has mostly covered management science and microeconomic theory. He has served in several administrative positions, in particular chaired the Board for the Business and Economics Departments (1982-85), been chairman of Department of Economics (1988-90), and vice rector of NHH (2002-05). His research includes the fields of operations research, mathematical economics, and resource and environmental economics. His articles have appeared in Mathematical Programming, Operations Research, Review of Economic Studies, the Scandinavian Journal of Economics and other international journals. He has held visiting appointments at Stanford University (1974-75, 1981-82, and 1991-92) and University of California in Santa Barbara (1999-00).
