Mario Guajardo Wagner Prize Finalist
Mario Guajardo has made it through to the final of the 2020 Wagner Prize Competition, with an entry entitled "Scheduling the Main Professional Soccer League of Argentina".
The Wagner Prize is one of two really prestigious prizes awarded by INFORMS, along with The Franz Edelman Award. Guajardo has, in fact, been a finalist in the latter competition as well, back in 2016.
The road all the way to the final is a long one, as an application goes through a panel of about 10 juries. They have a rigorous process to verify that the works selected for advancement in the competition, first to a semifinal and then to the final, are strong in methodology, but also applied on real-world situations.
Normally, the final would be at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in USA (which gathers thousands of researchers every year), but given the corona situation it will go online this time.
