SAM23 Climate Policies and Green Investments Opportunities

    The course provides insight into how green climate-friendly technology is introduced in certain industries and how this creates business opportunities. Different sections will focus on how specific industries are adopting new green technology. The interaction between business opportunities and framework conditions/regulations is discussed on the basis of specific cases.  

    There will be widespread use of guest lecturers from Norwegian business and industry.

  • Learning outcome

    The course provides an introduction to how the green shift is playing out in important industries at specific companies.

    On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

    Knowledge

    • Explain how the green shift is taking place in important industries.
    • Discuss the interaction between business competition and goals for reduced climate footprint.
    • Describe trends in green technologies.

    Skills

    • Evaluate how companies can position themselves to take advantage of green technology and new framework conditions.
    • Assess the profitability of green projects.
    • Estimate how policy instruments affect profitability.

    General competence

    • Identify climate footprint from different industries.
    • Demonstrate how certain industries are expected to develop in order to reduce overall emissions.
    • Assess how policy instruments affect companies' investments in green technologies.

  • Teaching

    The course consist of lectures, guest lectures and prepared discussions in class.

  • Restricted access

    The course is restricted to 70 students.

  • Compulsory Activity

    Approved draft of the presentation.

  • Assessment

    Group presentation (4-6 students): Equals 40% of the total grade.

    Individual term paper: Up to 10 pages.  Emphasis on the grade 60%.

    Topics will be decided no later than 2 weeks before the last lecture and students have 3-4 weeks to submit.  Termpapers can be written in Norwegian or English.
